I'm BACK!

Hello everyone!!! I'm finally BACK!!! YAY! For better or for worse! =D

Since you all must be sooo bored without me around, I shall write about my trip! (I so bu yao lian(dun want face), hehe. No lah at least edha still updated.)

(PS Edha... the teaching of mr yong was a disaster ahhahahahaa)

I shall write in in the form of the day 1 till today kind of format. This is going to be a super super long post.

BTW I returned to Singapore on the 28th of November, 1pm exactly.

My itenary is at http://www.chanbrothers.com.sg/index.cfm?id=ebro_a&tour_code=E12F&p=new_button.gif&t=new

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Day 1: My family was terribly excited. (especially me) We wore our long johns and a woolen sweater. Mine was a turtleneck one. And I hated turtleneck sweaters because they make me laugh. When we reached the airport... we realised that the rest of the group was wearing T-Shirts. Oh well.

And so we boarded the plane. Qatar airlines. I thought that Qatar airlines was going to be horrible, but it turned out to be ok! In fact, the plane was a pretty new one. When you turned on or off your reading lights, the light bulb lighted up GRADUALLY, not ABRUPTLY!!! And the airplane lights were cool too. When they wanted to wake us up for some drinks, the lights went from dark blur to light blue to white!! HOW COOL IS THAT!!!??? And the service was very good. We met an old lady, who was the mother of a woman of the same age as my mum. And the daughter was a student of TKGS! Hahaha so cool right.

When we came down the plane, there wasn't even a linking bridge to bring us directly to the airport. Only stairs. -_- And there wasn't even a train after that to bring us INTO the airport. Only a small bus. How pathetic is that.

We stopped at Doha ariport. Doha is the capital of Qatar. And the airport was terrible. It was too small to cope with all the people coming into it... We were squashed, people cut the queue, etc.
And btw, the airport is terribly, horrifically small.

Then we had to wait for the next plane to come to bring us to Zurich. Boring wait. The seats were all taken up, and everyone had to sit on the floor while the tour guide argued with the staff there. The people there somehow ignored her instructions, and arranged the seating by alphabetical order, not by family!!!

Then we went to our gate to wait for the plane to arrive, and this German guy started to talk to my family. He was 50+. He started to talk to me. I ignored him, and he talked to my parents. He said "Germany, DOWN DOWN DOWN!!!" and pointed his finger to the floor furiously, and also said "Germany, NO FUTURE! Down, down! Down! Down! Down. Germany down!!!" Mad chap. That's why I ignored him. Later, a bangala guy passed by, and he cursed him in english. I didn't quite get what he said, but I concluded that he was mad, and we moved away.

On the second plane, the service was not as good. Dunno why leh. But I remember a steward called Paul or something. Okay. Enough for Day One.

Day Two: Breakfast on the plane was not good for me as I expected. The plane was a wobbly one. The airport at Zurich was VERY NICE!!! Same standard as Singapore, but very empty. We went to the Rhine Falls first, and on the way there, I felt like puking, but I didn't. Hehe. It was very cold there, and the rhine falls looked kinda misty. Some fog kinda engulfed it... Making it look magical. I had some hot chocolate and chocolates there, which definitely made me feel better.

Later, we had lunch at the Black Forest. The vegetable soup they served was GREAT!!! The pork knuckles, german sausages, and the cake was so-so. And the pork knuckles were BIG. We then went to look at the cuckoo clocks, which were exorbitantly priced. A guy later demonstrated how they made cuckoo clocks. He was funny. There was a cuckoo clock which depicted a woman hitting her husband on his head with a wooden plank because he wasn't working hard enough. He said "If you see little guys with flat heads running around, you know what happened."

LOL!!!

Thereafter, we proceeded to Lucerne.
I can't remember what was for dinner, though.

Day 3: Breakfast was very pathetic cuz all we had was bread and jam and butter and drinks. PATHETIC!!! We went to the Lion Monument, and then went to Mt Titilis. =D
It was great, because we took cable cars up to the peak! And the best part was that it was SNOWING AT THE PEAK!!! WOOOOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's great to see snow huh! =D

It was snowing very heavily, and the snow was really thick. In fact, it was snowing so heavily that everyone couldn't see what was in front of them. It was fun though.

We had some pasta and tomato soup at the restaurant there, when we spotted Paul the steward! My mum spotted him first and it took me a few moments to figure out where I saw him before. The tour guide said that he was from Romania. (huh?) Oh ya. And the cashier at the restaurant cheated us of 13 francs. Idiot. No receipt some more. Idiotic. &**##%%!!!!!!!!

The tour guide brought us to some place called BUCHERER (Bu-ker-rer not butcherer) Which sold souvenirs and branded watches. The rolexes there were expensive, because if my parents bought a rolex in Singapore, they could bargain with the guy here. (friend mah, haha)

In the evening, we walked across Chapel Bridge. The top of it was filled with cobwebs. Yuck. And there were adult shops there. Halloh! CHAPEL bridge nearby got sex shop. UHH... EM..... They don't like Chapel Bridge izzit? Haha jk.
We had macdonald's for dinner.

Day 4: We had the same pathetic stuff for breakfast. Sniff. Of course, for me, the main highlight of this day was ALBERT'S HOUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ALBERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ALBERT!!! We went to the bear pit first, where this nerdy guy in my group kena bird shit on his shirt, *giggle*. The lunch there was pretty good. We ate with the mother and daughter pair. The waitress there was very stuck up just because she doesn't know english. -_- But the cake I ate was very nice! =D We saw the clock tower too!

We stayed at a nice swiss chalet. Our room was a two-leveled one! Bed on top, bed below, SO NICE! So country style.

Day 5: Okay I lazy to type liao... I continue tomorrow k??? Sorry ah! =P

Husband: Wife, do you want to go and blow urself up at a wedding?

Wife: Oh my dearest husband (bows down) of course i want to be with you in every crucial step of life. i shall do anything to spend time with you. even if it means DEATH!!!

Husband : Oh my faithful wife. come i shall teach you to put the bomb on and blow yourself up. (puts layers of bombs on the wife)

Wife: oh thank you , thank you for contributing to my death.

Husband: ok when i give you the thumbs up sign at the wedding, we blow ourselves up!!!!

Wife: (pressing button continously however bomb does not explode!) oh no husband why have you left me all alone??? now what shall i do????

Wife: (runs out with screaming bride)

Wife later gets caught by police and is interrogated.

basically that was the whole story.

so now tell me technology can fail us even at the moment of death. the poor lady is now in jail because her computer which is the bomb got jammed.

i did not know that even the forces of technology are also on our side of the fight against terrorism.

2005 has been a very disastrous year.
there was the bird flu epidemic
tsunami
dengue
south asia earth quake
hurricane katrina
the recent israeli earthquake
bombing of bali
bombing of delhi
bombing of london
the teaching of mr yong
the separation of all of us
and the list goes on

let us all hope that this does not happen again in 2006

Are your going to the class Chalet? First day maybe we can meet during recess? Oh... ya when I went back to school last week, guess what, I saw Zut Zut in a black T-shirt, she was waving her hands happily when she saw one of the teachers. Hope to see all of you soon at Sam's house. Anyone watching Harry Potter? Heard its great!
I'm very very very very very very.......... glad and happy to be part of SLS for the past 2 years and hope that everyone will still stay in touch through this very cool blog! Hope to be in the same HCL class as Ju and Sam.

Humans don't appreciate what they have at first...

They only find out that what they have means alot to them when they lose those stuff.

Stuff?

Stuff like freedom, food, clean air, friends and family, etc.

Besides food, I think that there's another thing that many women have taken for granted. Their modesty.

Ok, so why did I come up with this topic??? I saw this gigantic poster in front of the Singapore EXPO yesterday while I was in my dad's car. It portrayed a sexy woman wearing so scantily... posing like some prostitute waiting for the old ah pek to come... OKAY YOU GET THE IDEA. I was very much disgusted...

So, you may ask, what was I thinking at that point of time?

1) This model has a brain made of bird-shit.

2) This model is pretty, and at the same time has an IQ... as high as her shoe size. (yes that means that we're all geniuses *almost on par with albert, and we should thank her for allowing herself to be stupid, because she gave us a chance in life to be geniuses.)

3) The guy who thought of the idea of putting a poster like THAT in public is a perverted sex maniac who just escaped from the IMH.

4) Er, Media Authority of Singapore? How could you allow posters like this to be displayed openly in public? And furthermore, this is not the only poster in Singapore (displayed publicly) that will generate perverted thoughts in men. EH! HALLO!!! BLIND ONE AH?!

Oh I just remembered an article from a science magazine. Pornography does 'blind' people, temporarily.

Think about the women in other countries who are being treated unfairly. Those in countries which discriminate against women. Let's take a country like... a certain part of Africa. There, women, and even GIRLS younger than us are raped everyday. The rate of raping there??? About, say, 5 every hour?

And what happens to those poor girls? Well, they don't have a say in anything. So they just have to accept the fact that they were sexually exploited. The men there have the final word for everything. The women are just treated as lowly humans who don't deserve respect. As a result, many girls have contracted STDs like AIDS, herpes, etc.

Now, let's look at Singapore. Of course, Singapore is a much more civilised country. The government punishes those who commit crimes severely. The men living here are generally able to control their... erm... Let's refer to it as urges. Ya. So, even if they see a scantily-clad woman in the street, they most probably won't go up to them, pin them down and rape them, unlike in other countries.

As a result, more Singaporean women are wearing lesser and lesser clothes. In the past, women wore shorts. Now, they wear super short shorts, and super ultra micro mini skirts. (Which may result in more perverts, and families breaking up?) Necklines are plunging down into blindingly low depths. (Covers eyes and runs away)

In short, don't you think that many women are taking for granted the fact that Singaporean men are more civilised?

Now, have a look at some magazines like eight days, and look at some advertisments around your neighbourhood.

Dear MDA, WHAT THE HECK is happening?

What is being inculcated into the minds of our children???

Answer: sex!!! WHAT THE *toot*!!! Wei! I'm concerned about our future kids!!!

Shouldn't the government stop advertisers from using suggestive images and words in public ads? Such ads should be limited to places where only adults exist. Stop exposing our kids to mind-polluting stuff like that!

For example, ads for *ahem* women's underwear *ahem* should OBVIOUSLY BE BANNED FROM BUS STOPS BECAUSE I CANNOT STAND THE SIGHT OF THEM THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

Please, I'm appealing to all advertisers here.

Think Clean. Think Clear. Think... Conscientious.

I personally think that people who look at pornography happily, and people who model for disgusting pictures are all bird-shit-brained idiots who should not exist on earth. Remember, pornography makes people go stupid.

And by the way, you all must have read many articles in the Straits Times about this girl called Sarong Party Girl. Her blog became famous because she posted naked pictures of herself on her blog. I think that she is a total poop-brained idiot, because she is polluting more people's brains, and making the society more stupid, just because she's stupid. Honestly, I DESPISE HER!!!

She's Annabel Chong the second, just another prostitute-to-be. Another person who's ruining the clean image of Singapore. Why dirty the image of Singaporeans??? What were we taught in school?! To contribute to Singapore and make it better for our future generations, right?

So what the heck is this girl DOING??? And why the hell did Annabel Chong do something so low-down??? (Read the article in the straits times about annabel chong in sunday's paper. I was disgusted to read about it.)

I appeal to all readers of my post to oppose against pornography, the blog mentioned above AND the girl mentioned above, or any other blogs and people that are making people stupid.

I mean, COME ON!
The genius Albert Einstein is dead, and we badly need another Einstein. So why ruin the minds of our children? Every kid has an equal chance to succeed in life, and every kid has the potential to be the next Einstein. Why ruin their chances by polluting their minds? What's happening to the world?

It's for the sake of women's rights. Since we women in Singapore have a say, all the more, we shouldn't show off our bodies freely in public for all old perverts to see. We should respect ourselves and our fellow women, right?

Save mother earth, go green.
Save the brains of our future generations, go clean.

Yes, as clean as the pure water vapour in the skies of Singapore! Yay!

So, stop more people from turning into bird-shit-brained idiots!

SUPPORT MY GO CLEAN CAMPAIGN!

Remember, supply and demand. If nobody wants to see pornography, then no one will produce pronographic materials. And the world will be a much happier place.

THANK YOU!!!

*Bows*

Xinyi

P.S.
Wonder why I called those people bird-shit-brained idiots? Because bird poop is dirty. You get the idea. Dirty minded. WHAHAHHAHAA...

Another thing... I have this poster which says the following. I find it inspiring, and you should remember it!

"Bear in mind that the wonderful things you learn in school are the work of many generations. All this is put in your hands as your inheritance in order that you may receive it, honour it, add to it, and one day faithfully hand it on to your children."

And who said this???

None other than the great, wise ALBERT EINSTEIN!!!

Use this motto in your life. Make the world a better place for everyone to live in! =D Yeah!

Malnutrition In Children

this post is in response to julia's request for topics to debate on.

we are sooo fussy about our food. sometimes it takes us alot of time to decide what ot have for our meals and when we finally do have them, we usually order more than we need and we are not able to finish it. where dos this unfinished food go? why down the drain of course! imagine what the condition of those children must be who have absolutely no food to eat. they are not given the choice of going ot pizza hut or mcdonalds. they cannot even think about wasting food. food is as precious to them as is your new billabong bag to you. why are these children suffering what are the causes of this malnutrition? let me tell you.

CAUSES

malnutrition can be caused by deficiencies of protien, energy and micronutrients (nutrients needed in small amounts). children become malnourished due to illness in combination with in inadequate intake of food. other causes are poor sanitation, poor quality drinking water adn inadequate child and maternal care.

In as many as 35 of the poorest countries, 30-50 per cent of the population may have no access to health services at all.

More than 1.1 billion people lack access to safe drinking water and some 2.9 billion people lack access to adequate sanitation. The result is the spread of infectious diseases, which in turn are major causes of malnutrition. Each year, diarrhoeal dehydration claims the lives of 2.2 million children under five in developing countries.

Several studies have found that malnourished children who were stimulated verbally and cognitively had higher growth rates than those who were not. That means that children should interact with parents. This will help the children grow emotionally as well. Inadequate care for children and women is an underlying cause of malnutrition only recently recognized in all its harmful ramifications.

The very high rates of child malnutrition and low birthweight throughout much of South Asia are linked to such factors as women's poor access to education and their low levels of participation in paid employment, compared with other regions.

RESULT

malnutrition contributes to over 6 million child deaths a year, 55 per cent of the nearly 12 million deaths among children under five in developing countries. Half of all children under five years of age in South Asia and one third of those in sub-Saharan Africa are malnourished.

Malnutrition leads to reduced productivity, hampering economic growth and the effectiveness of investments in health and education, and deepening poverty.

In countries where infant mortality rates are high or moderately high, a bottle-fed baby in a poor community is 14 times more likely to die from diarrhoeal diseases and 4 times more likely to die from pneumonia than a baby that is exclusively breastfed.

WHAT IS BEING DONE?

Over 12,700 hospitals in 114 countries are now baby-friendly, establishing a good start to breastfeeding for millions of babies.

Sixty per cent of all edible salt in the world is now iodized, helping reduce the toll of iodine deficiency disorders. Bolivia is the first and only country to certify that iodine deficiency has been virtually eliminated as a public health problem.

In 1997 alone, the lives of at least 300,000 young children were saved by vitamin A supplementation programmes in developing countries.

In Mbeya in Tanzania, a project improving health coverage and access to safe water, as well as growth monitoring and promotion, has produced a drop in moderate malnutrition of 11 percentage points. In contrast, malnutrition among children under five in areas not covered by the project actually increased by 7 percentage points.

In Brazil, the rate of malnutrition among children covered by a community-volunteer growth monitoring and promotion programme run by the Child Pastorate is half the national rate.
In a village in Niger, malnutrition rates have fallen by 10 percentage points as a result of a programme that helps women organize to reduce their workloads and enrich family diets with new foods.

Community volunteers in Oman's Al Dakhiliya region are helping reduce child malnutrition through improved care and health activities.

Nutrition promoters in Bangladesh are working in 1,000 community centres to help support breastfeeding and better caring practices for women and children.

Guatemala has brought vitamin A deficiency under control by fortifying sugar with the vitamin. Sugar is also being fortified with vitamin A in parts of Bolivia, Brazil, El Salvador, Honduras and the Philippines.

UNICEF supplied a total of 2.7 billion iron/folate tablets to 122 countries between 1993 and 1996 for distribution among pregnant women to help reduce iron deficiency anaemia and folate deficiency. Wheat flour is being fortified with iron in a number of countries in Latin America and the Middle East.

The nutrition of millions of children around the world has benefited from improvements in health services, particularly the achievement of immunization rates between 80 and 90 per cent in many countries

All this is being done but it is not enough. We are the young generation and it is our responsibility that we make sure that all these procedures remain active and ntroduce more schemes to help all the children out there. You can also help by finding out more info about organisations that are working towards this cause and helping them out.

Here are some websites you may want to check out if you are interested:

http://www.myplanet.net/stanglaser/
http://www.nourishsomechildren.com/
http://www.food4africa.org.za/

there are many other sites you can find by surfing the net.

next time you waste food, remember the children dying out there.

My ambiton is to go to places where there are children dying due to malnutrition and poor sanitaion and help them out as a docter. I hope I inspired some of you to share my ambition.

VERY STRONG OPINION

heyy there to everyone.

whoa. those are some really strong opinions. but i do have my own opinions as well.

about the popularity voting, i am in complete agreement *cue nodding* I mean, most of the votes come to the popular people. its all a matter of popularity. The kids who are not-so-popular never really get a chance. its a powerful force and i think alot of people have been left in its wake. people just go along with the popular ones. that leads to the popluarity voting.

as for the woman's lib issue, i think that we are as good as anyone. I mean guys may be more muscular but hello! reality check! if we didnt exsist, the world's population would just go down.

Sterotyping is lame too. I mean, library isnt lame! i dun think it is, i think its cool.

These issues so need to be fixed and ASAP. geez. the power of words?

hugs to everyone,

sam

Atrocities On Women

i have yet another topic to start.

Let me ask you a question. Why is it that women are always discriminated and considered more lowly than men? Why is it that men are gven more privelages than women? I agree that nowadays there are alot of women rights activists but why did we ever see the need for these activists? Why did we end up in a situation that so many ladies were killed, tortured and used as prostitiutes? Some of us may think that women were inly discriminated in the past however it is still happening now in this world. Let me show you a few examples
Taliban Rule in Afghanistan -1996
  • women forbidden to go to work or school. Those who did try to go were beaten and brought home.
  • women had to be accompnied by a male relative to leave the confines of her home.
  • When a women is outside the home she is compelled to wear a head to toe covering called a "burqa," with only a small mesh opening over the eyes to facilitate a limited view of the outside world. It is important to note that the peripheral vision of Afghan women wearing burqas is so restrictive that many have been injured due to poor visibility.
  • women were beaten for shoing a bit of ankle or wearing noisy shoes.
  • women were not allowed to speak in public and any female from puberty till death could only talk to males who were her relatives
  • healthcare is virtually non existent for women.
In the city of Kabul alone there are 40,000 widows who can no longer work to support themselves and their families. Some widows are fortunate enough to have male children who can beg for the family. Others sit in dark houses praying for humanitarian aid which can only be delivered to them by a male intermediary. Many are eating grass, suffering from skin diseases due to the lack of sunlight and dying due to starvation and untreated illness.
  • The Taliban asserts that the prohibitions for women and girls are religious and protective in nature. Yet it is known that many Taliban break their own rules and send their daughters to school in other countries.

here is a link to one of the websites which shows the injustices committed on women. link

According to Vickii Onabolu, pornography is partially to blame for the injustices comiteed on women

"Some of the main anti-pornography arguments are that pornography leads to increased violence against women, it encourages the objectification of women and promotes the use, abuse and exploitation of women. They also believe that pornography affects the way women are seen in the world and that the reality we live in; which is one where the subordination of women is the norm, is created through the through the gender roles established by the pornographer. "

to get the complete article, visit this website now (do not worry this site does not contain any pornographic pictures.)

Lets take a look at women in central asia.

First I would like to remind Article 26 from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the first line of which says: "Everybody has the right to an Education".

ok look here everybody may have the right, but not everybody is able to EXPERIENCE that right. the chances of education in women is exceedingly limited due to restrictions from society, financial difficulties, etc.

According to the Survey about the Violation of women the majority of women indicate that they do not study because:
"I am not allowed to leave home"
"There is no school or University nearby"
"I do not have money for education"
"I do not have time for it"
"I do not find it interesting"

For the complete article click here.

I have not time to actually write about all the injustices committed on women but already these mentioned are enough. i hope that we can do something about this and if not remove then try to reduce the amount of injustices committed on women. Even our school TKGS has awarded G. P. Nikhila (2e4 2005), the speech award for talking about women rights and also set the book Sing To The Dawn by Mingfong Ho to raise awraness about the discrimination agianst women. it is time we spoke up against all these injustices. We being women are the ones who should take the most action as only a women can understand the atrocities committed on other women the best. i hope i have made you aware of things happening around the world. do not just turn your head and say that it does not affect you but actually reflect upon how lucky you are and think of ways to help people who are not as lucky as you. after all you only get a chance to do good once in life.

i hope i helped

Another topic really worth discussing...

Okay. Basically I totally agree with Edha again. (Why can't I think of a new topic to start with) Oh ya. By the way, computer club DOES participate in prestigious competitions, but the boys always beat us. And I mean the CHinese High boys. They're way too good for us! =P

That, I have nothing to say. I wanna go Hwa Chong JC already. Be with all the science and tech nerds. Ah, the life...

Oops I'm daydreaming again. My mathematical skills are on par with that of a donkey. How can I ever go there.

Ok, let's talk about ART CLUB first!

Frankly, I don't see what's so boring about art club. Er, okay. Maybe art club is boring after all when mdm seah is nagging continuously. Or when miss della and mdm seah are arguing. (ooh maybe that's not so boring. That's INTERESTING.)

I was in Art Club myself in Primary school. In P4 I was in Netball though, which explains why my hands and legs are so tanned. =( And also explains why I have such a BAD tanline around my ankles. Then, for some reason which I can't remember, I joined art club. Maybe it was because I was pretty inspired by my art teacher then. She was really nice. The nicest art teachers I ever had was Miss Ginnie Quek and... Miss Loh. I can't really remember the name of Miss Loh, and I think I just gave you the wrong name but nevermind. (Or was it miss lau? or Low?)

I have very fond memories of being in Art Club at that time. It was really fun! We did tie-dyeing, we made a dress and a hat for the school doll, called Dolly. (duh, doll called dolly.) And I also remembered that my primary school did not have a computer-related CCA of any sort. But they did have a science club. And it was pretty boring because you have to research on the colour of corn cobs. B-o-r-i-n-g.

Well, there was already some CCA discrimination at that time. Those in the sports became horrifically popular when they won something. Art Clubbers were considered... Boring.

I mean HEY! TKGians shouldn't call people BORING because of their CCA! Everyone has interests of their own. So, we should respect people of all the CCAs. And Edha has made a very good point that people in Drama club are petrifyingly popular. It's like the whole school knows them. =P

Oh yeah. Bet you didn't know!!! Miss Chan, our science teacher, was in computer club when she was a TKGian. =D

Look at Jael! She's a really talented artist in Art Club, and of course, Mdm Seah loves her. (which art teacher wouldn't?) Would you call her boring? NO! I'd say that she is beautifying the school! And of course, I think that the Art Club members did a GREAT JOB with beautifying the school, and therefore they should get some recognition. So what if Art Club members are working in the background? Without them, I think Drama Club would not have existed today. it would be extinct. So, shouldn't the Drama Club members and most importantly, the whole SCHOOL (including teachers and the principal) respect them?

Yup that's all I have to say for Art Club. Now for Computer Club.

Er, actually we don't take part in so many competitions, to be honest. It's not that... glorifying to be in computer club, but it's definitely cool to be in computer club, and it was also a really good experience for me when I went for the national software competition. There were, of course, very enjoyable moments, (okay i mean darned FUNNY) which I will always remember. For example, mr hay kena cake on his face because the sec one was insulted pretty badly by him.

Frankly, I think that my cohort of computer club members are not really enthusiastic about computer club. There is this girl who usually skips computer club, and does other things on the computer when Mr Hay is teaching. I obviously want to smack her hard on her head with a ripe coconut, but oh well. I don't care.

Why do some computer club members (I'm talking about my batch only) treat computer club as some... Leisure time?! I'm disgusted. I'm freaked.

Why do some quit their sports CCA to join computer club? I'm sure you have heard of many such cases. Well, it's because they find the sports CCA too torturous. Computer Club very slack one, they say. But this is the kind of attitude that I absolutely CANNOT TOLERATE! I believe that you should go for every CCA session whole-heartedly, with enthusiasm, with an urge to learn something new.

I think it's the same for Art club too.

Anyway, I don't really know what computer club did for the school. =/
Hahaha... Of course I hope that computer club does do something for the school sometime. But it's more like Mr Hay who is really doing the job. He's designing the new school website!

Go to our school website. You see this link there for P6 girls? You'll be directed to this page. Then click on the one that says "being a TKGian is EXCITING". That's the page Mr Hay did. Eh cool RIGHT!!! I wish my flash skills were as good as his but of course, I'm dreaming again.

By the way, I'll be going overseas next saturday. The airplane is taking off at 7.30pm. Shall miss you all lots! =(

Ok. Cya!

Why The Steriotyping????

ok i have another new topic to start.

A few days back at school, I made a new friend via the library board. When i told her that i was from art club, she said " oh, is it not boring?" . I really do not understand one thing, why are all the minority clubs steriotyped as boring? When we have our CCA day, where do you see the longest line? yes in all those groups which have auditions and are really respected by the students even though they do not do half the things we do. Art Club paints the boxes drama club uses, sews their curtains paints their props and what do we get in return? Not even recognition from the club let alone the school. Computer club designs the posters for the school, participates in prestigious competitions and are they ever given any recognition? NOOOOO! Recognotion is only given to the other popular groups. All those groups need to do is make one announcement about any programme they are having and tkgians come running to support them. However when the library board makes announcements for any competition they may be having nobody responds! Why? Beacause te library has been steriotyped as boring and no matter how much effort is made to ask ppl to come down to library even to watch free movies, no body comes. Is this how we are to be treated? The school just takes these clubs for granted. What if the librarians decide to go on strike. No one in the school will be able to borrow books, you will not be able to have peace and quiet to study the library will become living hell!!!! To look at it in another way, the school is partially to blame for this steriotyping. When students auditon for certain CCAs that the may want to ge in but are unable to, they are directed to the darned minority groups. At that point of time the students think that all those goups namely the comp & art clubs and basketball are for good for nothings and are your last options. In that way students join the clubs half heartedly and are not intrested in the activities which are actually interesting. Then the drama club members are so popular. Its like if you are in drama you are popular instantly but if you are in art club basketball or comp club you are a nerd. If you do not believe me just take a look at the school community? Look in your class who are the more popular ones are they not those in drama dance and all those sports? Why are we discriminated? Why are we not given as much support as the other groups are by the school community? We labour behind the scenes and we are not given any recognition have you ever heard any of the teachers cheering us on? Has any member of the school community actually commended any of the minority groups? How many people you know are in awe of the drama and dance? Yes we know that our school is stron gin the arts but does that mean they have to stop supporting the non arts? this is injustice to us? We should raise this matter in the school and ask questions to the school on this matter. Is it not in the pledge, "...to build a democratic society based on justice and equality..." ? So let me pose this questoin to the TKGS school community WHERE IS THE JUSTICE AND EQUALITY BETWEEN THE DIFFERENT CCA GROUPS??????

I hope my post has enlightened all those readers out there. Let us all stand together and fight against this discrimination and stereotyping. Thank You.

childhood games

well, basically its like every other kid.playing, talking. i remembered my favourite game with my church friends was catching. we would chase each other like anything. Another favourite was "masak masak" that is you have this plastic ingredients/ cookeries which you cook for others to "eat. We made menus and laid chairs, it was like a restuarant. There were 5 of us, we took turns to be the chefs, waitress and customers. That time we were so creative, we had a small bell where, when the chef has cooked, she will ring the bell and the waitress will come. guess how we made sushi.. we used green rough paper and tore it inro thin strips den we crushed white rough paper.. and dere you go! our new dish. We played as a "family" also. I was always the "baby" cuz i was the youngest.ahha..its had itz advantage also... i didn't have to walk, cause the "mummy" will carry me from one place to another. (so cool rite) haha. but i had to crawl which was not too bad. =)

oh i was a "westlife fan" in my childhood! The most common mtv i watched was britney spear's "oopz I did it again" yup. I can memorise the song by heart.

hey galz, take care kz. cya at class chalet. ( if ur can make it). tata.

Re: Popularity Voting... I think it stinks worse than a rotten skunk.

This post is my personal opinion towards popularity voting, a topic started by Edha the Brave. (yay!) And this is going to be a terribly looong post. Because I'm long winded.

(IMPORTANT NOTE: If I'm criticizing popular people, the criticisms are all directed at POPULAR but INCAPABLE people. POPULAR but CAPABLE people deserve RESPECT.)

After reading her extremely inspiring and enlightening post, I've decided to support her point. Her words have definitely grabbed hold of my attention. Popularity voting has become a very serious 'plague' that has infected many people around our age. Is it possible to cure it? Or at the very least, prevent it from happening?

I totally agree with the fact that Edha has been the victim of popularity voting, not once, but many times. Same goes with me. I would not consider myself or Edha popular people in the school. (obviously.) For me, I think it's because of my character. I'm not a VERY nicey nicey nice nice person that can socialise with others very easily. (Mr Hay can.) And maybe all of you don't know this, but I don't like to talk to people in a big group, unless I know all of the people in the group very well. I prefer one to one talk, almost all the time. =P

Yes, I AM abit anti-social most of the time. =P It beats me why I'm like this too! But I'm fine with it. I'm fine with having a small group of trustworthy good friends. I don't need a big group of fair-weather friends. In my opinion, a small group of close friends is definitely better than a big group of fair-weather friends. What do you think?

Okay, sorry for digressing so much. =D Hehe thanks for bearing with me. I shall get on to the main point now.

First of all, ask yourself this question first. Is it worth it to vote someone for a job, (whether important or not) based on their POPULARITY?

To be fair, I'd say that...Well, sometimes, it depends.

Imagine you're the boss of the XYZ company. You have to send someone to clinch a deal worth 100 million in New York next month. And your choices are down to 2 candidates.

Candidate A: A very hardworking Director of the company. He treats everyone he meets well, and is actually a very capable man. He is also a great director. He was voted as "Best Director of the year" last year by the whole company. He has important connections to the famous and the rich all around the world. The only downside about him is that he is not as good with words as Candidate B. On the positive side again, he is pretty good looking and popular.

Candidate B: Also a very hardworking woman. She is your personal assistant. She is efficient in everything she does, but she is not exactly good at socialising, and does not have many connections to the rich and famous. But on the positive side, she is very good with words. She just has the gift of the gab. Almost everyone is willing to believe what she says. She just seems to have this... magical way of making people agree with her opinions, even though she looks like an average person.

You must be thinking, "I'm lost for words. They're almost equally good. Should I just send them both to clinch the deal???"

I'm not going to say which candidate I would pick, because I'm not sure myself. Whahahahahaa!!! Definitely a pretty tough choice, huh?

So, as you can see, sometimes, popularity may not be an advantage.

But of course, that's for the real world. Life's alot simpler in school. The real world is like a huge sphere of seawater filled with dolphins and killer whales. It's not that simple. School's pretty much like a kindergarten. We may be more matured than those kids, but deep in our brains, most of us would not have any ulterior motives.

In school nowadays, it's all about popularity. Class chairman voting session? We've got to look at how popular you are in class, then. What? You have better leadership abilities than that popular girl? Oh, sorry. I don't think the class would want to listen to you anyway.

Isn't that how it works in school most of the time? Give yourself a minute to think about it.

Practically speaking, I think that popularity voting is here to stay. I doubt we can change the system. But here's some words of wisdom for all those people who REALLY deserve to be voted, but did not.

Think about those who vote based on popularity. Just think about how good their reasoning and analytical skills are. If there's a class chairman voting session going on, and a popular but incapable girl gets voted, the whole class is going to suffer.

Is it worth it? Obviously no. But of course, those voters wouldn't have the courage to admit that they're in the wrong. So, you can always tell yourself that you should feel proud of yourself, because you did not vote for the popular girl, and you were not one of those who contributed to the misery of the class.

Remember, school's just part of life. Popularity is something superficial. What counts is your real ABILITY and your CHARACTER.
The real world does not work the same way. Sure, popular but incapable people may get more chances in life at first, but for unpopular but capable people... All you need is ONE CHANCE to prove your worth. After that, chances will come pouring in like rain.

Hope my post did not bore you. =P And of course I hope it didn't insult anyone who should not be insulted by this post.

Well, I have to say this again although I sound like an old, nagging grandmother.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!

Xinyi

Popularity Voting

Today as I was shouting at my brother to vacate the computer seat, I realized how many times I have been the victim of the bad effects of popularity voting. One of the bad effects are when you are one of the candidates taking part in the polls and your fellow candidate is about the most popular person in the class or even in the school. When caught in that situation, voters do not bother to take notice of who is a more worthier candidate. All they look at, is who is more popular. So why do they vote for someone more popular? Well, for one, they are trying to earn a chance for themselves to become popular. By voting for them, they are earning themselves a chance to be noticed by that person who may give them a chance to be their friend. To put it in other words, they vote to beg to be part of that persons' circle of friends. Another reason they run after the popular ones is because voters are told by that persons' friends that the more popular ones are more deserving for the position(these friends can be pretty influential) . So that poor voter, instead of finding out the real truth, gets talked into voting for the more popular one. Then you might ask, why does not the less popular one do the same thing and spread the message about him/her being the more better candidate. Well, there are 2 reasons.

Reason 1: The candidate knows that he/she is fighting a more popular person and so if he/she speaks up against them then they will sabotage them or spread false rumors about them.

Reason 2: That candidate may not have enough friends to spread the message or the friends that he/she has are not popular enough for anyone to listen to.

So eventually the person who is more popular naturally gets more votes. Now my friends, tell me, do you think that this is justice? Shouldn't both the candidates be given equal rights to express their views on what ideas they have to improve the situation of the class, school or the community? Do you not think that this situation that is found in our school community should be acted upon? Well at least I do think so and one of the ways I can think of is that we be allowed to campaign for our votes. If, when voting, all parties participating are allowed to campaign their ideas to the public, it will provide the voters with a better scope of view of who to vote for. And maybe if it is successful, and people co-operate, we shall be able to abolish popularity votings form our school community copmpletly. So I hope you support me in my effort to raise awareness on this topic of popularity voting and i urge yo udo do your part and DO NOT vote on a person's popularity. Thank-You.

DISCLAIMER: THIS POST IS COMPLETLY BASED ON ,MY OPINION AND EXPERIENCES. IT IS NOT AIMED AT INSULTING ANYBODY.

it feels good to let all that out. sorry for making it that long but once i start, i cannot stop.

hope you liked my argument

Thank you Xinyi

this is a post dedicated to xinyi. i would like to thank you for the logo you have made for me. to tell you the truth, even though i like all the attention, i do not really deserve all that admiration as it was just in a day's work for Edha the Great. not a big deal for someone who can belly dance in front of the whole class to shake ur bon bon, right? anyways thank you. my brother is being really cocky right after looking at all the stuff you all have written about him and that very colourful logo of him. oh xinyi i only throw water on my brother when i am trying to wake him up and trust me that is not easy.

basically that is all i want to say...

WHEE!!!

Hi everyone! I'm so terribly happy that everyone's posting terribly fast here in SLS! (well, almost everyone.) That's the way man!!!

Oh ya. Edha ah... I didn't know you throw water over your brother?!

O_o

And Mdm Khoo is a little weird huh... Why didn't she say bye to such a polite student?!

About the classes named after flowers thingy... Is there going to be a class named Poison Ivy? I think everyone would avoid that class at all costs. =P

And to show my... erm... admiration for Edha's bravery, I shall present her with A Proof of a Hero. Or Heroine.
I did this whole thing using photoshop, and the picture was taken on edha's birthday! =D
To avoid inconvenience for edha, please click on the link below to see it.

Proof of a Hero!

Yay! Congratulations, Edha!!!

ok hello. i went to school this morning to hand in the OBS cheque and when i approached the general office, there was no one at the desk. all the staff were inside this cabin. i just stood there i really did not know what to do as they seemed to be having a meeting. then finally i mustered up courage to disturb their meeting and pressed that bellthat the have. then of all ppl Mrs Khoo came up and said:

Mrs Khoo: yes girl, what do you want

Me: errm, i have to pass this cheque to mrs tan ching yi

Mrs khoo: ok you write your name on this paper ( produces this used paper which has been written on many times. shows how stingy our school is)

Me: (write name) do i have to write my class too?

mrs khoo: (looking surprised) of course you do!

Me: oh ok( write class)

Me: (passes the cheque) thank you

Mrs khoo: hmm

Me: bye bye ( expecting an answer)

Mrs khoo: hmmm ( stares at cheque)

me: (thinking ) its original lah! not forged. you do not have to stare at it as if you have never seen a cheque before.

and then i walked away. honestly the way she was starin gat the cheque, i have a feeling that she will run away with it!

and i also have this piece of rumor passed on to me by our loved senior diyanah. accorfing to her, all the classes nest year shall be named after flowers. there shall be no more 2e1 but instead there shall be 2 bouganvillea or 2 crysenthemem. and so on. julia says she hates it.

ok let me tell you that i do not support MFC because my brother is not cute. he is annoying.
xinyi thank you for reading my article . i know i must have bored you to death.

I am dying to know the results and like xinyi i woke up at 7 am did not brush my teeth did not comb my hair did not throw water on my brother BUT went to the darned comp to check my results and found out that no results were there. sigh. the poor service the school provides to the students.

ending off here.

-eddy edha-

Ren! (endure)

Yo!
Hey I'm really happy to see edha and julia post! =D
So you see, you can post absolutely ANYTHING here!
If no one is reading your article, you can be assured that at the very least, I will read it. =P
Because I'm bored.

I'm waiting anxiously for the streaming results. I woke up at 7am today, feeling terrible. Because:

1) My mum turned on the main light as usual to put on her makeup and I can't sleep with the lights on.

2) For obvious reasons. I SCARED I NEVER GET INTO MY FIRST CHOICE AH!!!

Yep. So I slept for awhile more after she turned the danged light off. It's kinda amazing. I actually love bright places, and yet ironically I hate bright places when I'm sleeping.
Then, I finally woke up. And went to my computer even before I brushed my teeth, tied my hair up, etc.

And what the toot.

the results were not up yet.

I was... shocked?

Now weijia just told me that today is the sec3 class allocation EXERCISE, 15th november is the RESULTS day.

GAH!!!

This is stupid man... Can sleep more end up never sleep. Haiz.

What to do now leh. The math homework is only coming on Thursday. This is boring. Am I going to spend the rest of my holiday life... playing... maplestory... and... the sims? HAIZ!!!~

I believe you can already feel the concentrated amount of boredom in me waiting to explode. Heeelp!!!

School's over, so I can't write much about Yappy or Yongi. Sad. No more recounts.

Yesterday the stupid Chan Brothers travel agency made my mum and I happy for nothing. They told us that the trip could take off, then another guy called to say that it couldn't take off. Then came the news about riots in France. How? Where has Justice gone to?

I mean. EH! Siao one ah! Haven't confirm yet, tell us confirmed for WHAT?! HAR?! Make my mum cancel her appointment with the doctor to JANUARY. TMD!

Anyway... My maplestory character is only at level 21 and I'm planning to be a Fire/Poison Wizard. Though it's a highly unpopular choice... But I thought poisoning was a pretty neat attack. You poison the idiotic monster and go hide. Then, the poison will slooowly take away it's HP... muahahahahaha!!!

And of course you get exp. points. ;)

Alright. I'll stop writing here! Enjoy your holidays! =D (again)

Bungy Jumping And Roller Coasters

HELLOOOO!!!!!!!!
Hi guys. ok i went reverse bungy jumping at our very own loved (by 21 and above) and hated(by me) clarke quay!!! I am sure you all must have noticed that cruel cage suspended by flimsy and thin wires which catapult you into air the moment you think you are going to have the time of your life but instead ruin the whole thing beacause you scream your lungs out! *panting and trying to catch breath*. Well, SOMEBODY, namely my daddy dear, DARED me to go onto that thing and tell him how the experience was. Now, all those who know me know that i can try anything that will prove me to be the ultimate critic. So naturally I tried. Here is my experience in chronological order.

1. they asked me to remove me shoes, and everything in my pocket. (calm and concentrated)

2. i sat down in this jungle of what appeared to be safety straps. (confused and still calm)

3. the cage is tilted. ( starting to freak)

4. the final 15 sec countdown ( OMG i need to get out!!!!)

5. 3, 2, 1, BLAST OFF!!! ( aaaarrrrrrrrrgggggggghhhh my butt is in the air!!!)

6. the cage spins (MOMMY!!! start praying)

7. slowly we are relaxed back to earth ( oh that was not too bad was it? i remained relatively calm)

8. i get off along with my dad and uncle, wear my shoes, tell everyone what an exciting experience it was while inside i am swearing i shall never go on that thing again.

AND

i went to genting theme park.
they have this new standing roller coaster in which instead of sitting, you have to stand. it is supposed to give you an experience of flying in air.
here is my experience in chronological oreder.

1. standing in this line which is probably gonna take hours ( harumph i am bored)

2. ok the next car is ours and i have to hurry and get on cause the cars do not stop. (yay! our turn is here!!)

3. we board the car and are trapped inside this cage with NO SAFETY STRAPS!!! ( what ! no safety straps?? hello what if i fall out??)

4. we are slowly climbing up ( omg! omg! its coming oh no why did i get myself into this?)

5. we have the fall. up down and all around. we even go upside down a few times. ( AAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHH!!! i am gonna fall ooooooooofffffffffffff!!!! lord save my soul!!!!!!)

6. back to ground. ( i did it! i did not fall off! i would like to thank my dad my mom, my brother who cried cause he was too short for the ride, my friends and all those who i know!!)

7. questions from family. ( was i scared? of course not! scared and me?? i am the best! )

well thank you for enduring this painfully long post. i hope you enjoyed it. i shall be glad to see yappy and yongi try it some day. oh i can almost imagine their faces contorted in agony both of them releasing high pitched screms from their overly large traps found in the middle of their scared faces.

toodles
