Popularity Voting

Today as I was shouting at my brother to vacate the computer seat, I realized how many times I have been the victim of the bad effects of popularity voting. One of the bad effects are when you are one of the candidates taking part in the polls and your fellow candidate is about the most popular person in the class or even in the school. When caught in that situation, voters do not bother to take notice of who is a more worthier candidate. All they look at, is who is more popular. So why do they vote for someone more popular? Well, for one, they are trying to earn a chance for themselves to become popular. By voting for them, they are earning themselves a chance to be noticed by that person who may give them a chance to be their friend. To put it in other words, they vote to beg to be part of that persons' circle of friends. Another reason they run after the popular ones is because voters are told by that persons' friends that the more popular ones are more deserving for the position(these friends can be pretty influential) . So that poor voter, instead of finding out the real truth, gets talked into voting for the more popular one. Then you might ask, why does not the less popular one do the same thing and spread the message about him/her being the more better candidate. Well, there are 2 reasons.

Reason 1: The candidate knows that he/she is fighting a more popular person and so if he/she speaks up against them then they will sabotage them or spread false rumors about them.

Reason 2: That candidate may not have enough friends to spread the message or the friends that he/she has are not popular enough for anyone to listen to.

So eventually the person who is more popular naturally gets more votes. Now my friends, tell me, do you think that this is justice? Shouldn't both the candidates be given equal rights to express their views on what ideas they have to improve the situation of the class, school or the community? Do you not think that this situation that is found in our school community should be acted upon? Well at least I do think so and one of the ways I can think of is that we be allowed to campaign for our votes. If, when voting, all parties participating are allowed to campaign their ideas to the public, it will provide the voters with a better scope of view of who to vote for. And maybe if it is successful, and people co-operate, we shall be able to abolish popularity votings form our school community copmpletly. So I hope you support me in my effort to raise awareness on this topic of popularity voting and i urge yo udo do your part and DO NOT vote on a person's popularity. Thank-You.
