yeeaks!

Aiya. Today abit suay lah. First, I found an ulcer at the back of my mouth... Feels painful at times. Yeowch! Then...I was running 'errands' for my mum voluntarily... help her cut the leek and taupok. I cut the taupok first, then the stupid fly keep trying to land on the taupok. Argh!
So I cut the leek up after that. I felt like crying. Why? Leeks are like onions... They make you cry when you cut them. (Maybe as a form of revenge?) Finish cutting liao put in the fridge. Then I smelt my hands. Yuck. They reek of leek!! =D So I got extra hand soap, and washed my hands.
And... Heck!!! When I went into my room, the skin between some of my fingers started to itch. ITCHYYYYYYYY!!!!!!
So, in a desperate attempt to stop the infuriating itch, I rubbed some baby powder on the parts which were itchy. It got slightly better. So I rubbed some tiger balm on it. Ah. Alas, it feels better.
Oh ya... My mum always leaves the manukkah honey next to the chopping board, which is on a rack above the sink. Today, as I was chopping up the taupok... I was petrified. The bottle of honey was swarming with my arch rivals....... ANTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ANTS!!!!!!!!!ANTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ANTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ants!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!Not AGAIN!!! This is the 2nd time it's happened. I guess I'll wait till my mum comes home before I eliminate them. Will mum ever learn her lesson??? Leave the honey in the fridge!!! I dun wanna see those tiny, idiotic, swarming stuff ever again!!!

Oh well............. On the brighter side, yup. My dad took the pics of the hibiscus flowers, and some others. I took alot of pics of my stuff. Like, my knitted scarf, the texture of it, my home-grown aluminium potassium sulphate (alum) crystals (grow very long one) , my two new soft toys (aaahhhhhhh so cute!!!! I assure you both of them are cuter than Sly, hahaha), the heart shape pattern on a DIY pompom I made, my laptop (which I'm using now), and my dad's 3 discus fishies! Also... for killing my boredom, I edited a pic showing my dad's biggest discus fish's last moments of life... it was lying flat on the base of the tank... about to die. So my dad took a pic of it at that time in memory of it. (hahaha) Out of it, I made a pic which almost looks the same... it shows the discus 'alive' again... I dunno how to explain... but if you see the two pics put next to each other you'll get what I mean. Currently making a photobook kinda thing of it... wait arh... will post here soon. By the way... some pics are kinda blur... so... bear wif it can??

WAIT A SECOND!!! Listen---is that song.......

Yup, the title of the song is that's what friends are for.
I was talking with Julia yesterday, and she mentioned that she liked the song which the Singapore Idol finalists sang together. She said it was meaningful, and I liked it too. So... I was looking around for it today and ta-dah!! Here it is! I've provided the lyrics to it too, so, sing along!

That's What Friends Are For
And I never thought I'd feel this way
And as far as I'm concerned
I'm glad I got the chance to say
That I do believe I love you

And if I should ever go away
Well then close your eyes and try
To feel the way we do today
And then if you can remember ...

Keep smiling, keep shining
Knowing you can always count on me, for sure
That's what friends are for
For good times and bad times
I'll be on your side forever more
That's what friends are for

Well you came and opened me
And now there's so much more I see
And so by the way I thank you
And then for the times when we're apart
Well then close your eyes and know
The words are coming from my heart
And then if you can remember ...

Keep smiling, keep shining
Knowing you can always count on me, for sure
That's what friends are for
For good times and bad times
I'll be on your side forever more
That's what friends are for
(Sly:ohh.........!)

Keep smiling, keep shining
Knowing you can always count on me, for sure
That's what friends are for
For good times and bad times
I'll be on your side forever more
That's what friends are for

Keep smiling, keep shining
Knowing you can always count on me, for sure
(Oli: Of course I'll tell you)
That's what friends are for
For good times and bad times
I'll be on your side forever more
(Sly: Forever more......ohhhh...)
That's what friends are for

(Sly: Thats what friends are for......ohhhh....)

Always look on the bright side of life~!

This post is done by xinyi for Sylvester Sim, Singapore Idol runner up.
Ok, to be honest, My family voted two times for him last night. So, I hope Sylvester knows that he does sing better than Taufik! :)
My mum initiated it. She said halfway through Sly's first song, It's My Life, "Wha he sing so good I want to vote!" I was abit hesitant about it at first, because my family used to belong to the group who never votes. Not one single one for anybody. Later, when Sly unleashed his last song, I Dream, my parents said that he sang alot better than Taufik. This song was meant for him, after all. (Though I think that this song is very obiang. (old-fashioned) Because the lyrics make it sound like a 10-Year-old national day theme song) Then, my mum said the same thing again. This time, my dad wanted to use his phone to vote. Ok, so we voted with his phone. Our decision was clear- Sylvester is the winner!! He sings so much better than his rival last night, Taufik.
My dad gave many good examples of chinese-marketed singers from Singapore. Stephanie Sun Yan Zi was the first he mentioned. She's already spent 3 years in the chinese entertainment circle, and even after a one year break, her new album, Stephanie, has topped the charts.
I thought of more popular singers from Singapore. Ah Du, Lin Jun Jie, Tanya Chua and Kit Chan.(though she's not popular anymore now) They've lasted in the chinese entertainment circle for a long time. There are also the newbies, Huang YiDa, Joi Tsai Chun Jia and Stella Ng. They're also in the chinese entertainment circle, and heck, they're popular too.
Try to think about how many english-marketed singers there are who are as popular as those mentioned above, and also come from Singapore. How many can you name?
The answer is straightfoward, and would come as naturally as why human beings breathe. None.
Let me emphasize this again. NONE!!!
I may seem sarcastic now, yes? But that IS the actual FACT! The actual, terrifying TRUTH! I'm not being biased towards the chinese, but this is the fact. Ok, a good example is Dick Lee. If you ask me when I first came to know of him, my answer is, when Singapore Idol started. And, I didn't even KNOW that he sings, until i saw his oddly-coloured cds in shops a few weeks back. (My opinion of his singing is that, William Hung sings better than him.) And after hearing his songs yesterday, I am more than happy to tell you that his two songs are total flops. (especially Fried Rice Paradise)
Dick Lee's in the English entertainment circle, and a Singaporean. Could he be marketed overseas to become popular with people from other countries, like the chinese-marketed singers mentioned above? No. Why? My father puts it simply- The americans just can't accept us at all. 'Why not? You must be a racist! I hate you!', I hear you say. Hey! Cool it! Okay, hate me all you want. But you can't change facts. It's like this. It's like, you can't stop the earth from spinning on its own axis. The world's like this!! If it's not gonna work, then it ain't gonna work. Opinions from a small group of people can't make a difference THAT easily. It's gonna be real tough. You gotta get a big group of people with the same opinion to change the world's opinion. Human beings are like that, like it or not. They'd rather go with the majority's decision.
Now I can already hear Taufik's mad fans screaming, "You're a total RACIST! You hate Malays and are biased against them, right?" I'm not. That's the fact. I'm not angry that Taufik has won the title of the first Singapore Idol, nor am I happy for him. I don't think that he can be marketed overseas like what his managers say.
What about marketing him to the Malaysians? My prediction is that he would be better off there than with Americans, Singaporeans, or the world market. He should have a malay album. He's better off singing malay, in my opinion. The world won't be able to accept him.
He won't make it as a singer. Believe me. And the world idol judges aren't gonna take in his singing well, too. Like it or not, even the chinese have problems getting popular in the english entertainment circle. (the most popular one I've heard of so far is... Jin?) Needless to say, malays will also have huge problems getting into it. (the most popular one is....... Shakira?? She didn't last long too) Taufik will not be exempted from bad treatment in america.
I was happy to see that Sylvester's going to have an album in the newspapers today. It shows that Singapore is not wasting its talents. My advice to recording companies is to save our sinaporean talents! They're hard to come across. I think giving Daphne Khoo and Maia Lee recording contracts would be good too, because they're talented, just like Sylvester! *hint, hint, yo! Ken Lim!! You've got some good talents ready for you to take in and earn big money! Think about the money, Ken!*
I remember that someone threw a lightstick at Ken yesterday. I wonder who that was. :p hehe. He got a crude shock, hehe! Poor Ken. It was very obviously meant to hit him on the head. But it was a near miss.
I see Sylvester as Clay Aiken, and Taufik as Ruben Studdard. Don't you think so? Clay Aiken was a runner-up too, and also got a recording contract. Clay also had a big group of mad fans. (remember? There was a poster that said, 'Clay is my AMERIAIKEN Idol!!!')
Work hard, Sly! Make good use of this recording contract!
Singapore will see you make it in the Chinese music industry!
