Atrocities On Women

i have yet another topic to start.

Let me ask you a question. Why is it that women are always discriminated and considered more lowly than men? Why is it that men are gven more privelages than women? I agree that nowadays there are alot of women rights activists but why did we ever see the need for these activists? Why did we end up in a situation that so many ladies were killed, tortured and used as prostitiutes? Some of us may think that women were inly discriminated in the past however it is still happening now in this world. Let me show you a few examples
Taliban Rule in Afghanistan -1996
  • women forbidden to go to work or school. Those who did try to go were beaten and brought home.
  • women had to be accompnied by a male relative to leave the confines of her home.
  • When a women is outside the home she is compelled to wear a head to toe covering called a "burqa," with only a small mesh opening over the eyes to facilitate a limited view of the outside world. It is important to note that the peripheral vision of Afghan women wearing burqas is so restrictive that many have been injured due to poor visibility.
  • women were beaten for shoing a bit of ankle or wearing noisy shoes.
  • women were not allowed to speak in public and any female from puberty till death could only talk to males who were her relatives
  • healthcare is virtually non existent for women.
In the city of Kabul alone there are 40,000 widows who can no longer work to support themselves and their families. Some widows are fortunate enough to have male children who can beg for the family. Others sit in dark houses praying for humanitarian aid which can only be delivered to them by a male intermediary. Many are eating grass, suffering from skin diseases due to the lack of sunlight and dying due to starvation and untreated illness.
  • The Taliban asserts that the prohibitions for women and girls are religious and protective in nature. Yet it is known that many Taliban break their own rules and send their daughters to school in other countries.

here is a link to one of the websites which shows the injustices committed on women. link

According to Vickii Onabolu, pornography is partially to blame for the injustices comiteed on women

"Some of the main anti-pornography arguments are that pornography leads to increased violence against women, it encourages the objectification of women and promotes the use, abuse and exploitation of women. They also believe that pornography affects the way women are seen in the world and that the reality we live in; which is one where the subordination of women is the norm, is created through the through the gender roles established by the pornographer. "

Lets take a look at women in central asia.

First I would like to remind Article 26 from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the first line of which says: "Everybody has the right to an Education".

ok look here everybody may have the right, but not everybody is able to EXPERIENCE that right. the chances of education in women is exceedingly limited due to restrictions from society, financial difficulties, etc.

According to the Survey about the Violation of women the majority of women indicate that they do not study because:
"I am not allowed to leave home"
"There is no school or University nearby"
"I do not have money for education"
"I do not have time for it"
"I do not find it interesting"

I have not time to actually write about all the injustices committed on women but already these mentioned are enough. i hope that we can do something about this and if not remove then try to reduce the amount of injustices committed on women. Even our school TKGS has awarded G. P. Nikhila (2e4 2005), the speech award for talking about women rights and also set the book Sing To The Dawn by Mingfong Ho to raise awraness about the discrimination agianst women. it is time we spoke up against all these injustices. We being women are the ones who should take the most action as only a women can understand the atrocities committed on other women the best. i hope i have made you aware of things happening around the world. do not just turn your head and say that it does not affect you but actually reflect upon how lucky you are and think of ways to help people who are not as lucky as you. after all you only get a chance to do good once in life.

i hope i helped
